Dr Vivek Kulkarni
Sports and Exercise Medicine Doctor

I am a Sports and Exercise Medicine GP specialist. My aim is to provide excellent quality of care to all athletes, regardless of calibre, to continue to participate and perform to their maximum potential in their chosen sport or exercise. The activity may be a sporting profession or a lifestyle, and I aim to offer the same standard of treatment to all.
My experience comes from working in community and professional sport, dealing with weekend warriors and international athletes.
I usually work in the MOD in a multidisciplinary injury-assessment clinic in a rehabilitation setting dealing with sports and training injuries. I have worked with Royal Navy and UK Armed Forces Rugby, Bath Rugby and more recently with England Hockey and Gloucestershire County Cricket. I have worked with Torquay United Football Club for over 18 years. . I have done training in Surgery, General Practice and Sports Medicine and therefore have a multi-faceted view of managing sports injuries. I can also provide advice on further rehabilitation or referrals for orthopaedic management if appropriate.
I utilise point-of-care diagnostic ultrasound which helps to augment clinical history and examination. I am also skilled at Ultrasound guided injections and this includes the use of local anaesthetic, steroid, hyaluronic acid and Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP). Injections can be a useful therapeutic tool to relieve pain, as well as a diagnostic tool at times.
